Quick take : Retro chic with a modern twist

Filmfare rating : 3.5 /5

From the promos, Baar Baar Dekho looks to be a Sci-fi romance. The music for such a film can go all haywire but thankfully it isn’t the case with this OST. The makers have gone for multiple composers option, which has resulted in some interesting pieces.

Kho gaye hum kahan, sung by Jasleen Royal and Prateek Kuhad and composed by Jasleen Royal is a soft, serene piece that’s soothing to the ears. The guitar riffs complement the voices to the T. Jasleen showcases her virtuosity by composing a fast paced bhangra party number Nachde ne saare, sung by Harshdeep Kaur, Siddharth Mahadevan and Jasleen herself.

Sau asmaan, sung by Armaan Malik and Neeti Mohan and composed by Amaal Mallik, is Sooraj dooba redux. Thankfully, it’s pleasant enough to make you overlook that point. The brothers need to get out of that space before it starts bothering the listeners.

Dariya, written, composed and sung by Arko is a soulful number commenting on the vagaries of love. Arko sings it well enough. It feels like a country song caught in a Bollywood beat.

Pakistani Singer composer Bilal Saeed has reworked his own Khair mangdi to make it sound more Bollywoodish. It’s a soulful track that belongs more to a classic love story than a futuristic romance. It’s easily the song of the album nevertheless, as far as melody is concerned.

Kaala chashma has already taken the nation by storm. It’s a modern day reworking by Badshah of Amar Arshi’s original released a decade ago. Sung by Amar Arshi, Badshah, Neha Kakkar and Indeep Bakshi, it retains the mad frenzy of the original and compels you to move to its rhythm.

All-in-all, Baar Baar Dekho’s OST is catchy and fun and with a couple of tracks already doing the rounds of the party circuit, it clearly stands out as a winner.
