Sindh Minister for Tourism, Culture and Antiquities Sardar Ali Shah has strongly responded to Ashutosh Gowariker’s lately published film ‘Mohenjo Daro’ and requested the director for distorting facts to tender an apology. Shah said this movie has made a mockery of highly developed culture of the 5000-year old civilization, reports the Dawn.
He said he would shortly convey expostulations and Sindh’s reaction to ‘the director concerned In accordance with Shah, the film depicted nothing but figments of imagination of filmmakers and had nothing related to history of Mohenjo Daro. He added the world had broadly recognized the significance of the heritage sites of Sindh, that has been obvious in the fact that Makli necropolis and Mohenjo Daro were a part of the list of international heritage sites and UNESCO was caring in coordination with the authorities for them.
Shah isn’t the only one that has taken offense over the artistic freedom taken by Gowariker. The film confronted flak of many historians, beginning right in the release of its preview.
Released on August 12, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunita Gowariker marks the introduction of Pooja Hegde and produces the movie. In India, the movie has grossed Rs 76.5 crore.
It’s place in town of Mohenjo Daro in the age of the Indus Valley civilisation which dates back to 2,600 BC. Mohenjo Daro is Hrithik’s second cooperation with Gowariker after the 2008 movie Jodhaa Akbar.
