Mercury has been constantly rising in our country after Sunday’s terror attack on the army camp at Uri in Jammu & Kashmir, that left 18 Indian soldiers dead. There has been an escalation of tension between India and Pakistan as the four terrorists responsible for the attack had crossed into India from Pakistan.
A couple of days ago Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya had lashed out at Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar for giving work in Bollywood to Pakistani singers and actors. Although Abhijeet’s Twitter rant did not have much impact on the Indian film industry, but it certainly has shifted focus of the people on Pakistani artists working in Bollywood.
In a latest development, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray has issued a deadline for all Pakistani artists working in Bollywood to leave the country within 48 hours.
According to a latest report, MNS has given an ultimatum to artists like Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who belong to Pakistan to leave India. A leader of the party issued a deadline of 48 hours, after which he said that MNS would “push them out”.
Amey Khopkar, chief of the MNS’s cinema workers’ unit Chitrapat Karamchari Sena while speaking to ANI, said, “We give a 48-hour deadline to Pakistani actors and actresses to leave India, or MNS will push them out. Pakistani artists will get beaten up. Along with them, we will also beat up whichever producer or director is with them.”
Fawad Khan has of late gained a lot of popularity with his portrayal of a gay character in his last Bollywood film `Kapoor & Sons’. He also stars in Karan Johar’s soon to release film `Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. His short appearance in the teaser has already created a lot of excitement. Fawad has also signed a film that will be produced by Salman Khan and another movie opposite Katrina Kaif.
Apart from Fawad, Mahira Khan also has a big Bollywood project lined up. She stars along with Shah Rukh Khan in Raees, which is still under production.
Other prominent Pakistani artists who have made India virtually their home these days include Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Imran Abbas, Atif Aslam and Mawra Hocane.
It’s easy to get carried away, but is it logically justified to involves artists in this anti-Pakistan campaign? If these Pakistani artists are dragged away from the country, the main sufferers would be Bollywood producers who have invested large moolah in their incomplete lying films.
