Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Sunday took to Twitter to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi silence over a ban on films starring Pakistani actors by a section of cinema owners. Kashyap tweeted in support of colleage Karan Johar, saying: “The World must learn from us..We solve all our problems by blaming it on movies and banning it..#ADHM. With you on this @karanjohar.”

In a series of tweets Sunday morning, Kashyap took on the Prime Minister over his visit to Pakistan last December: “@narendramodi Sir you haven’t yet said sorry for your trip to meet the Pakistani PM.. It was dec 25th. Same time KJo was shooting ADHM? Why?” In another tweet, he said: “@narendramodi why is it that we have to face it while you can be silent??”… “@narendramodi and you actually diverted your trip on our tax money, while the film shot then was on money on which someone here pays interest” “I am just trying to understand the situation because I am actually dumb and I don’t get it. Sorry if you feel offended..,” Kashyap tweeted, concluding with a “Btw Bharat Mata ki Jai Sir @narendramodi.”

Kashyap also appeared to have got the support of Delhi CM and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal retweeted a bunch of tweets by AAP supporters including one that read: “Now wait for FIR by Mumbai police, demolition notice by BMC, IT and ED notice and Protests too.”

However, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar had a different view, saying it was now a fashion to blame the Prime Minsiter for any ban in the country. Speaking to ANI the Bollywood filmmaker said: “Whatever Anurag Kashyap said is wrong, Neither BJP nor Govt issued any ban,it has become a trend to protest agnst Modiji.”

The Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) recently said it won’t release films starring actors from Pakistan, in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Goa. The move has led to an uncertainty on the release of Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”, as it features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The movie, also starring Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, is slated to hit theatres on October 28.
