A day after Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis brokered peace between MNS chief Raj Thackeray and filmmaker Karan Johar over the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, actor Shabana Azmi has slammed his actions in a series of tweets. The veteran actor wrote, “What a sorry state of affairs!CM brokers deal n buys patriotism for 5 crores! After Home minister had promised peaceful passage 4 #ADHM.”

MNS had banned the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in the aftermath of Uri attack as it starred Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Yesterday, Thackeray said the ban has been lifted as Producers Guild has agreed not to work with Pakistani actors and filmmakers who have cast Pakistani actors have agreed to donate Rs 5 crore to army welfare fund.

More from the world of Entertainment:

Attacking Thackeray, Azmi wrote, “MNS will decide whether Im patriotic or not?I bow to d Indian Constitution Raj Thackeray does not.Whos patriotism needs questioning? (sic).” She also targeted the CM for bowing down to Thackeray’s demands despite Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assuring a filmmakers’ delegation that Karan Johar’s film will be released without any violence in India.

“CM Fadnavis shows scant respect for Home Ministers assurance of safe passage for #ADHM. BJP better haul him up and demand explanation,” she wrote.

Here is all that she wrote in a series of tweets.

Shabana was supported on the issue by actor Naseeruddin Shah. While attending a book launch on Saturday evening, he slammed MNS for its unreasonable demands. “The film industry is an easy target. They (MNS) have as much fun targeting the industry as they would have while watching films made by Bollywood. We haven’t broken diplomatic ties with Pakistan, nor are we in the state of war, or have sealed our borders. Only artistes who aim to spread the message of love and peace are being attacked, he said.

Thackeray had on Saturday demanded that every producer, be it Karan Johar or Shah Rukh Khan, who has worked with Pakistani artistes should pay Rs. 5 crore to the army welfare fund as penance. They should hand over the cheque to Union Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar, click a picture and show it to the people, he had said. After submitting the cheque, they have to reveal the amount they have donated to Maharashtra CM and then to the MNS.

Fadnavis, meanwhile, has rejected the opposition charge that he has bowed down to MNS’ pressure. He said on Saturday, He rejected Opposition criticism that the government had shown its weakness by intervening in the matter. “If that were the case, we would not have cracked the whip against MNS activists who vandalised theatres. Nor would we go ahead with the release of the film on its scheduled date in theatres. From the very beginning, I have maintained that security will be provided to all theatres which are screening the film.”

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will release on October 28.
