One of the many wonders of social media is the fact that ordinary people like us get introduced to stories of all kinds. This week was no different. And so, here is a quick look at what made news this past week…
Mawra Hocane: An adventure junkie
While Mawra Hocane is already popular for her chirpy demeanor, a video which got released over social media proves that the younger Hocane sister is always naturally charged up. The video shows Hocane jumping off a plane in Sydney, where she has been vacationing with family and friends. However, the most interesting point to note in the video is the fact that Hocane has a huge smile on her face when she jumps and is smiling and laughing throughout her skydiving session. While any normal person would have at least shown some semblance of fear on their face, Hocane isn’t one of them.
Karan Johar’s sad request
It’s absolutely disappointing to see one of the biggest film directors of Bollywood to have to literally plead to Indian nationalists to not attack him and his film. The Pak-India conflict has unfairly targeted the artist community and bearing the brunt of it all are people who simply want to promote peace. Karan Johar released a video in which he had to pledge his loyalty to his country and the army after all the backlash he has received recently. He also said that his film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil may feature one Pakistani actor but it’s been made by the blood and sweat of so many Indians that it would be unfair if the film is attacked.
Mohib Mirza’s Facebook rant
For some strange reason, the Internet exploded when Mohib Mirza took to Facebook to express his anguish at being asked to present awards for free “in the name of honour”. Within hours of his status, various news organizations picked up the story and involved other celebrities as well, asking for their opinion. This topic then started trending, with people debating over whether Mirza is right in his demand or not. We agree with the Bachaana star: no actor/celebrity/artist should be asked to do things that benefits someone else. As Mirza rightfully said, “When the top notch telecommunication company is sponsoring the event and the channel will run ads then why only honor for me?”
Arshad Khan aka Chaiwala
This story is getting updates by the hour and is one of the most viral topics on social media. It was trending on Twitter for hours as well. Arshad Khan became an overnight internet sensation when his photograph, taken by Jiah Ali, went viral for his good looks. It has landed him a modeling contract with a fashion brand in Islamabad. There have been numerous reactions over this episode, with people discussing classism and sexism under one breath, but all we care about is the fact that at least Khan has gotten something out of this. We just hope he isn’t exploited by the media and can go back to his normal life once all this brouhaha subsides.
