Shibani: We are living in a blessed country.. lyrics, song mp3 download
Mumbai, Oct. 22 — Shibani Kashyap may not be very active in the Bollywood music circuit, but she is often in the news for her live performances.
The singer has been facing some backlash for her new single, which was released in the wake of the Uri attacks and addresses terrorism.
Shibani, who has hit songs such as ‘Sajna aa bhi jaa’ to her credit, reveals that though her single is aimed to spread a message of hope, many people didn’t see it that way.
“When I put this song on Facebook, I got a lot of flak,” she says, adding, “I received criticism. People said I’m trying to make money by taking advantage of the situation. But there is no money involved. We have, in fact, spent our time and money to make the song. How can we progress if people in our country are make such negative comments?”
Speaking about the MNS’ call for a ban on Pakistani artistes, Shibani maintains that staying quiet about the Uri incident is also a crime.
“For the longest time, I have supported Pakistani artistes. I have even worked with some of them. However, I would want to ban all the artistes who are not condemning terrorism. Shafqat Amanat Ali did condemn terrorism, and I feel that such artistes should be welcomed. Our democracy allows us to raise our voice against the Prime Minister. We are living in a blessed country. If Pakistani artistes don’t condemn these attacks, then why should we welcome them into our country?” she asks.
Shibani acknowledges the rising popularity of independent music, but says that the pop and dance genres have taken over other kinds of music. “Of late, these genres have become more popular,” says the singer. “My effort is to keep promoting [independent music] and coming up with material like ‘Sajna aa bhi jaa’,” she adds.
