Boycott Karan Johar film for insult to legend: Goa top cop to Mohammed Rafi fans family, wedding pictures, age, height, weight, biography
Expressing reservations about a dialogue critical of legendary singer Mohammed Rafi in Karan Johar’s film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Goa’s top cop has asked Rafi fans to “boycott” the film. “Md. Rafi was 1 of the greatest singers of India & needs no certificate from any1. If u r Rafi fan boycott this movie,” Director General of Police (DGP) Muktesh Chander posted on Twitter on Tuesday night, retweeting a report in The Indian Express in which Rafi’s son Shahid had criticised the screenwriter for the dialogue.
WHAT ELSE IS MAKING NEWS:
On Wednesday, the 1988-batch IPS officer said in a text reply that he plays the flute, and is a big fan of Rafi. “I am a music lover, a Rafi fan and play his songs on flute. Anything in bad taste hurts feelings of millions of Rafi fans, and I am one of them,” he wrote.
In one scene in the film, when the character played by lead actor Ranbir Kapoor suggests that Rafi is one of his idols, the character played by Anushka Sharma remarks, “Mohammed Rafi gaatey nahi rotey thhe (Mohammed Rafi did not sing, he cried)”.
Shahid Rafi had said, “This dialogue doesn’t take the movie forward or backward, and if that is the case, what was the need to include this dialogue? And while writing this dialogue, didn’t they realise who they were talking about?…. My father was an institution…. Nobody in the industry says anything bad about my father. This dialogue is an insult… The man who wrote this dialogue is stupid.”
The film, written and directed by Karan Johar, has been in controversy of late, with the Raj Thackeray-led MNS first objecting to screen space given to Pakistani actor Fawaz Khan following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in September, and many people calling for its boycott. Days before its release, the Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India took a call against screening any film starring Pakistani artistes.
