The Ghazi Attack movie review: While this movie is an entertaining watch, it is more about the vessel that launches Rana Daggubati out of Prabhas’ Baahubali shadow and into a pan-India stardom (or at least a worthy export from southern cinema). This movie is ideal for anyone who enjoys the war films genre, good acting and tightly scripted action scenes.

Movie plot: The storyline centres around the sinking of the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. This fictional telling of what occurred during the sinking shows the underwater confrontation between the Ghazi and India’s S-21 submarine and the events that led up to it. The people on board include the aggressive Captain Rann Vijay Singh (Kay Kay Menon), officer Arjun (Rana), the rest of the crew, and Bangladeshi immigrant (Taapsee Pannu).

Verdict: The film is 85% paisa vasool. If you’re conflicted about which Friday release to watch, we’d pick this one.

Highs: Like any good war movie, the pacing of the plot is very effective. The second half of the film keeps you at the edge of your seat and the underwater action sequences are not to be missed. Any war movie fan will be pleased with this film, along with its anti-Pak nuances and heroic Indian officers. Kay Kay and Rana put on a wonderful show, wonderfully playing off each others’ opposing violent and calm energy.

Lows: Taapsee’s talent is limited to making her eyes wide and spouting out Bengali now and then. To put it in the most basic way, she is on the submarine and in the film only due to the fact that she has an X chromosome. Some of the Pakistani characters come off more like villainous cartoons and seem out of place in a film that was made with considerable sensitivity. For the nitpickers, the effects of the movie might not be up to par with that off Baahubali.
