Maria Memon is a famous Pakistani journalist and newscaster, currently working as an anchor for famous news channel. She was hired as a coordinator for Najam Sethi’s show on Geo, and then worked as an anchor and field reporter for Geo where she hosted a show Meray Mutabiq with Sohail Warraich and Hassan Nasir.
Maria Memon recently tied the knot with CSS Topper Umar Riaz. Let’s take a look at their wedding picture here:
Maria Memon is one of Pakistan’s most popular Television personalities. A renowned journalist and news anchor, Maria made her debut TV appearance as a field reporter for GEO.
Despite her hugely successful career in TV journalism, she did not require any formal education in journalism to achieve her current status. Her passion for her work and a keen ability to follow the steps of her mentors ensured she rose to the top in her field.
Inspiration is Key :
After studying to be a software engineer, Maria took a chance and applied for a position at GEO TV. She was soon hired as a coordinator on GEO English before the project was dropped by the network. This was just the beginning for her however.
Maria was moved to GEO Urdu where she did her first reporting without any previous experience. She credits her ability to take on this challenge to her mentors and other people who inspired her to be the best. Maria says that she drew her initial inspiration from her grandmother, who instilled the importance of education in her from an early age.
She also considers CNN’s Christiane Amanpour as her role model, for her agile mind and long career.
Hard Work Pays :
Coming into such a career and starting from scratch, Maria very well recognised from the beginning that only hard work would enable her to achieve her goals. As a field reporter, it took her over seven years of intense focus before she landed her first appearance as a news anchor.
She takes great pride in her achievements and feels proud to always be part of reporting events that are not only relevant now, but will be passed on to future generations as a record of what happened in the world before them.
Empowerment and Independence :
Her rise in journalism continued further when she went on to host News @ 3, a new concept for Pakistan where most news shows are aired in the prime time slot. Maria says that she that this show finally gave the opportunity to be in control of the content she airs, rather than just repeating what is written for her on the Teleprompter.
This empowers her to do her best as a journalist and to provide viewers with a quality news viewing experience where the anchor is more than a puppet repeating somebody else’s words and thoughts.
The Face of Courage :
In Pakistan, where women journalists are often the victims of assault during their work, Maria has stood firm in the face of such challenges. While covering a political rally, Maria was verbally insulted before being physically attacked with bottles and even beaten with sticks.
She however says that the incident did not in any way discourage her from continuing with her work. After the attack, she was quoted as saying, “I will go back to the field. Such incidents will not make women stay at home in fear.” A trail blazer in the field of journalism, her courage is also a great inspiration.
