Actor Aamir Khan has reportedly refused to release his blockbuster Dangal in Pakistan without Indian tricolour and the national anthem.
According to reports, the Pakistani censor board had set two conditions for the movie to release in the neighbouring country. Their first objection was to Geeta Phogat (played by Fatima Sana Shaikh) waving the tricolour. The Pakistani censor board also wanted the Indian national anthem removed from the movie.
Towards the end of the movie, the Indian national anthem is played after Geeta Phogat wins a gold medal in Commonwealth Games.
Aamir reportedly has rejected both the conditions and refused to release the movie with the two cuts suggested by the Pakistani censor board.
The decision will cost the actor, who is also the producer of the movie, at least Rs 10-12 crore.
Not so long ago, the same actor was slammed by members of the BJP and other right-wing groups for his comments on intolerance with some even asking him to leave India.
Even the former defence minister (now Goa chief minister), Manohar Parrikar had gleefully confessed to being a part of a BJP campaign that ensured that Aamir was dropped by Snapdeal as its brand ambassador.
The Narendra Modi government had also dropped him as the face of its flagship campaign, Incredible India. Its senior civil servant, Amitabh Kant had proudly justified the the government’s decision.
