Pakistan Television (PTV) is once again in the news for its Chairman Attaul Haq Qasmi who is the current Chairman of the state-run organization. But it seems that is not the only position which he is holding as recently he appointed himself as the Managing Director too of PTV through a resolution passed at a meeting he summoned of the board of directors.
It was on Thursday that Senator Farhatullah Babar revealed the news during the Senate standing committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage meeting which left the members shocked.

According to Express Tribune, as members began to show their concern over this unlawful act Minister of Information Maryam Aurangzeb once questioned about whether the issue was in the ministry’s and her knowledge she confirmed the development but also stated that everything was done in the absence of the secretary and the decision was being reversed with the process for the new Managing Director starting from next week.
Since last year February the position of the Managing Director was empty when Mohammed Malik had retired from services and charge was given to officials of the Information Ministry.
With Qasmi being appointed the Chairman of PTV in December 2015 by profession he is an author as well as a columnist who also served as the Ambassador of Pakistan for Norway and Thailand, from 1997 to 1999. He is also the recipient of several government awards, including ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’, ‘Sitara-i-Imtiaz’ and the ‘Pride of Performance’.
