Pakistani dramas have always topped charts when it comes to content and subject matter. We have dramas that deliver quality entertainment without giving us those cliched “dhan dhan dhan…dhoomtana dhoomtana” and panning camera angles. Our dramas keep it simple (read glamorous as well) yet give us the much needed dose of entertainment that keep can keep anyone hooked (the only condition, the person needs to know urdu).
2017, has been an amazing year for the drama industry so far. With hits like Waada and Choti Si Zindagi airing on different channels respectively, we can produly say we have dramas that never fail to entertain the masses. And that people, is a win for everybody in the industry.
That said, lets check out the top six, most watched dramas on television for this year.
The man of the house falling for the maid, Waada had a cliched story line but nonetheless it was an exciting drama on ARY Digital that kept us hooked since the very last epsiode. Over the weeks we developed this love-hate relationship with Jaana, Sumera and Shahab, hating them for being so meek, so clever and so annoying and yet not missing even a single episode.
2) Choti Si Zindagi
We absolutely love Choti Si Zindagi for its simplicity and purity. This one drama taught us everything, from falling in love, to relying on whatever you have, to being thankful to the creator and appreciating little things in life. And since the drama is building to an unexpected crescendo at the moment, we really enjoy watching this amazing entertainer every week. Shahzad Sheikh and Iqra Aziz have been so adorable in Choti Si Zindagi on HUM.
An amazing star cast, great direction and a twisted plot, Rasm-e-duniya has all the ingredients of being a hit and so no doubt it has become the nation’s favorite. With Armeena Rana Khan playing the gorgeous damsel in distress alongside the psychotic Sami Khan and Bilal Abbas, we love how Rasm-e-duniya tells the tale of hatred, twisted relationships, anger and betrayal. Rasm-e-duniya airs on ARY Digital every Thursday.
4) Khali Haath
Brother in law, falling for the sister in law, seems like an old plot, isn’t it? But this isn’t what Khali Haath is all about. This drama is all about betrayal, love, anger, deciet and so much more that exists between twisted relationships in our society. Interesting storyline and excellent bit of acting by Ali Abbas, Shahzad Sheikh and Aiman Khan are things that make Khali Haath an interesting watch on GEO.
5) Khuda aur Mohabbat
Love is your guide to God; no other drama in the history of dramas has portrayed love with so much potential. Imran Abbas, Sadia and Kubra Khan made Khuda aur Mohabbat an all time favorite and a must watch drama. We loved how the drama made us fall in love with love itself and how each and everything was executed to perfection. For us, we couldn’t get enough of Khuda aur Mohabbat ever.
6) Sang e Mar Mar
A strong story, beautifully scripted dialogues, amazing direction and a stellar star cast, Sang e mar mar had all the ingredients of making it a hit and of course our top favorite. Also Mikaal Zulfiqar as Aurang and Kubra Khan as Shireen, what was not to love about Sang e mar mar. Hats off to the makers for having depicted the Pakhtun culture with such ease and for also having tackled social issues such as Vani as well as honour killing in an entertaining yet understated light.
