Pakistani films released in first trimester fail to shine at box office

Four Urdu, three Punjabi and six Bollywood films were released in the cinemas.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – Pakistani films that were released in the first trimester of the current year have failed to make their mark on the box office causing a big loss to its filmmakers however; Bollywood movies were able to gather a decent business.

Between January-March 2017, four Urdu, three Punjabi and six Bollywood films were released in the cinemas.

The Urdu films included Balu Mahi, Maula Way, Raasta and Wasal which failed to gather success on box office.

Sahir Lodhi’s Raasta cost Rs5 crore but earned only Rs35 lac. Balu Mahi and Wasal were also big budget films but made a minimal business. Maula Way was a low-budget film but could not meet its cost.

Meanwhile Punjabi films Jagga, Shammu Tangay Wali, Mera Challenge were all low-budget films and met the same fate. Most of the financers were eager to act in the movies but were rejected by the public. One Punjabi film was banned by the censor board due to having immoral scenes.

On the contrary, Bollywood films such as Kaabil, Jolly LLB-2, Commando 2, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, Badrinath Ki Dulhania did fine on the box office.Badrinath Ki Dulhania took the first spot, Jolly LLB-2 on second and Kaabil landed on third place in terms of profit-making.
